REASONS TO EAT HALAL MEAT EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A MUSLIM

Everyone knows what halal meat is and has probably seen a cheap food stand or butcher shop selling it on the side of the road.

Through engaging discussions with our non-Muslim friends, we have had the opportunity to share our perspectives on the significance of consuming halal meat. To our surprise, they have expressed agreement with many of the points we have raised. Despite religious beliefs, many people prefer halal meat for various reasons. The short response is that it’s a better choice for your health than regular meat. As a result of its lack of added hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides, halal meat is favoured by many shoppers. Non-Muslims often select halal meat because of the health benefits and the humane treatment these animals receive before being slaughtered the halal way, even though Muslims are required to consume halal meat exclusively.

Halal Meat: What Is It

Halal denotes permissibility and alludes to a more expansive notion of lawful behaviour in Islam. In a restaurant, “halal” refers to items on the menu that comply with Islamic dietary regulations, mainly meat. Meat is permissible in Islam if it has been slain by severing the jugular vein, carotid artery, and windpipe, with the name of God spoken over it.

The Slaughter Rules

Here are the procedures for certifying meat as halal, both recommended and necessary.

  • The animal should have been provided with a healthy and nutritious diet without synthetic growth hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.
  • As far as you are aware, the animal was given compassionate treatment and clean, suitable living conditions.
  • The person performing the kill on the animal must be a devout Muslim.
  • To show gratitude to God for providing sustenance, the animal’s throat should be slit swiftly using a sharp knife while uttering “In the name of Allah” (Bismillah).
  • It is prohibited to cut the spinal cord.
  • The animal must be killed by slicing its neck with a sharp knife; clubbing, goring, or any other means is unacceptable.
  • Islamic dietary laws prohibit the slaughter of mistreated, underfed, or abused animals for halal meat.
  • When being slaughtered, animals shouldn’t be forced into uncomfortable positions right before the cut, shouldn’t see other animals being killed in front of them, and shouldn’t see the blade being sharpened.
  • Before the animal is ready for human eating, it must bleed out entirely.
  • These rules are consistent with the Quran, which outlines which animals are forbidden to humans and specifies how they should be treated before being put to death.

The Benefits Of Choosing Halal Meat

  • Less pain is caused to the animal during a halal slaughter, and it has been scientifically demonstrated that animals suffer less pain when put to death this way.
  • Eating halal meat can provide both financial and health benefits. The meat is all you have to pay for; adding blood will make it much heavier.
  • Since what we eat affects our cognition, it follows that consuming halal food is not detrimental to mental health. The lack of micro-organisms and other potentially neurotoxic chemicals means your brain can fully benefit from this meal. Meat that meets the criteria for being “halal” has never been treated with growth hormones, antibiotics, or preservatives, and all these factors can compromise human health.
  • Vegetarian diets and grass are the only acceptable sources of nutrition for a halal animal. Since halal meat doesn’t contain blood, it has a superior flavour. Lactic acid in the blood can negatively impact the flavor of the meat.
  • Meat from animals slaughtered in an un-halal manner may be contaminated with ‘E. coli’, germs, and other unsanitary pathogens. Halal animal sacrifice doesn’t damage the animal’s organs; therefore, the meat and organs are pure.

The Taste of Halal Vs. Haram Meat

Many buyers are unaware of the distinction. Conversely, halal meat is believed to be healthier for individuals than haram meat. This is because, on large non-halal farms, hygiene is often not a high priority. After all, the farmers benefit financially from not investing in it. Antibiotics, growth hormones, insecticides, and animal by-products are sometimes utilised in non-halal farms to fatten animals rapidly. Because blood is not drained during haram operations, meat is more likely to be contaminated with pathogens. Many people who aren’t Muslims but have tried halal meat say it tastes better, besides the health benefits. Animals raised in conditions that are not halal (or organic) are more likely to become stressed. Many people prefer the flavour of meat from animals that are allowed to mature at their own pace.

Conclusion

Anyone, not just Muslims, can follow the tenets of halal. Why settle for less when you can have the best of both worlds—taste and good for you—in one convenient package? The importance of food in everyone’s lives gives food laws a significant weight in society.
